On december 26, 1823 the “Carnival Season” of the Teatro La Fenice was inaugurated with a remake of Gioachino Rossini‘s “Maometto II”, already represented, with not entirely univocal results, in Naples in 1820.
The shareholders of the venetian theater did not particularly like the “rearrangement” operation, as they considered that the season should be inaugurated with a new opera; the “Venetian” Maometto was performed for only six performance, and then forgotten, six weeks later, on february 6, “Semiramide” was staged, the new work that the venetians expected.
For the 2005 Carnival, La Fenice therefore proposes the Venetian Maometto II in this version of the opera with the show by Pierluigi Pizzi, who as usual, in addicting to directing, also creates scenes and costumes,
is visually very beautiful and allows you to fully enjoy the scenic installation built on the occasion of the reconstruction of the theater.
