Acquaprofonda
contemporary opera for kids
Acquaprofonda (Deep Water) is an opera for kids with original music by Giovanni Sollima based on a libretto by Giancarlo De Cataldo, which Teatro Sociale di Como commissioned in co-production with Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, where it premiered in December 2021. The highly topical issue of water pollution is addressed. A beach, a humble cabin, a large factory: the everyday life of the girl Serena, her father (the Guardian of the plant), and Master Bu, the factory owner, is disrupted by the arrival of a giant sea creature, an ailing whale. Thanks to the friendly Old Sailor, Serena will be able to convince her father to act correctly, and help the Whale get rid of the plastic in its belly, returning to Master Bu the polluting waste from his business.
