Vanessa Moreno & Salomão Soares

The São Paulo singer Vanessa Moreno and the Paraíba pianist Salomão Soares had already played together in larger ensembles, but it was after they met for a recording session that the idea for a duo project came about. Their first album, “Chão de Flutuar” (2019), was defined by critics as “precious”, and mixed different music genres with improvisation in both vocals and piano without losing the subtleties and lyricism of a small ensemble. Two years later, “Yatra-Tá” was released, reinforcing them as the most expressive duet in contemporary Brazilian jazz. Their repertoire ranges from artists such as Joyce Moreno, Luiz Gonzaga, Djavan, Hermeto Pascoal and Tania Maria, one of their main influences and inspiration for the name of their second record.
The term Yatra means “Journey of Transformation ” in Sanskrit. The musical affinity between Salomão and Vanessa brings freshness for their second album, which is based on Brazilian roots and uses creative freedom as the key element in the making of the arrangements and execution.
